Two Irish friends died of fentanyl poisoning in Florida. Authorities say the wrong one was cremated
Two Irish nationals, Kane Mitchell and Luke Comiskey, died of drug overdoses in Florida in April 2022. Their remains were mistakenly mislabeled by Florida officials, resulting in the incorrect cremation of one of them and burial of the other in the wrong family plot in Dublin.
The mix-up was discovered in July 2022 when the families noticed discrepancies in the autopsy reports. It's believed the error occurred during labeling. The District Six Medical Examiner Office is investigating the mix-up and has offered to cover associated costs.
Plans were made to exhume Mitchell's body for identification, but it's unclear if it has been carried out.
