Hedge Fund Billionaire John Overdeck’s Estranged Wife Sues Over Movement Of Trust Assets To Wyoming Before Her Divorce Filing
Laura Overdeck, the wife of hedge fund manager John Overdeck, recently filed a lawsuit against the law firm of Seward & Kissel and one of its partners, alleging malpractice and fraud. The lawsuit claims that the firm failed to inform her about certain provisions in the documents that transferred marital assets to Wyoming trusts, effectively relinquishing her claim to these assets in the event of a divorce.
Ms. Overdeck, who filed for divorce in March 2022, contends that the trust documents allowed her husband sole control over their children's inheritance and the possibility of distributing money to potential future children. The lawsuit also suggests that the law firm did not fully disclose the implications of moving the trusts to Wyoming, citing that they were originally transferred for tax benefits. Both Seward & Kissel and John Overdeck's representatives have yet to respond to the allegations. Laura's attorney, Kevin Kilcullen, emphasizes that the actions of the law firm directly contradict the interests of Laura and her children.
