Shayanna is hoping that by filing the suit she can protect the proceeds gained from the sale of Hernandez’s former home. Massachusetts state law permits homeowners who have filed a “declaration of homestead” to shield the value of their property by protecting it against seizure, levy, sale for payment of debts, and execution on judgment. The limit of the protection is $500,000 per home.
