Texas Judge Shuts Down Texas AG's Investigation of Nuns
What kind of bonehead cross-examines Mother Theresa?! Who does that? And since when did that become a good political strategy? Last week a Hildago County judge shut down the Texas AG's latest efforts to harass another Catholic nonprofit migrant shelter out of business. Ken Paxton, pictured above, didn't like Sister Norma Pimentel's response to interrogatories that must have taken a lot of time and money to answer. Time and money away from the relief ministry, and that seems to be the purpose. So Paxton demanded that she sit for depositions but the judge said no. Sister Pimentel, pictured below, is one of Time Magazine's most influential people. Can you be any stupider? You don't go cross-examining nuns, you'd think the state's chief litigator would know that.
The lazy-eyed AG is still pushing the ridiculous narrative that nonprofit migrant shelters are orchestrating an alien invasion along the southern border. This time the judge denied the efforts rather perfunctorily, instead of lambasting the AG the way an El Paso County judge did a few weeks ago. Paxton is literally suing Catholic nuns. I am not making any of this up:
District Judge Bobby Flores denied the petition after lawyers for Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley, one of the largest migrant shelters on the U.S.-Mexico border, argued that the nonprofit had already cooperated with the investigation by providing more than 100 pages of documents. The lawyers for Catholic Charities also argued that the attorney general’s request imposed "a significant expenditure of resources" on the Catholic agency and its ability to exercise its faith.
"We hope that we can put this behind us and focus our efforts on protecting and upholding the sanctity and dignity of all human lives while following the law," Sister Norma Pimentel, Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley’s executive director, said in a statement. Pimentel, a member of the Missionaries of Jesus, was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2020 for her three decades of work with migrants. Pope Francis has also praised Pimentel and the work of the nonprofit.

The only good thing about this is that the judiciary is exerting its independence. Ken Paxton is on a serious losing streak and I am beginning to see why. Because in our bizarre world stupid is good politics, it seems like.
