Melania Trump and Daily Mail Settle Defamation Suit

The Daily Mail and Melania Trump have settled their dispute over the paper's statements that Mrs. Trump worked as a professional escort before her marriage. The paper apologized to Mrs. Trump and will pay her close to three million dollars to close out the two lawsuits that she filed against it. More here from CNN.

Mrs. Trump had originally filed the case in Maryland in September of 2016 against the Daily Mail and a blogger,Webster Tarpley.   She and Mr. Tarpley settled their dispute in February.

As a public figure, she would have had to show actual malice to recover on the merits had the case proceeded to trial.
