Sonia Green Receives UIC's Award for Excellence in Teaching
Professor Sonia Bychkov Green of the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law was chosen as one of five recipients of UIC’s Award for Excellence in Teaching (AET) for 2022-2023. Each year UIC recognizes no more than five faculty colleagues across the University for exceptional teaching, effectiveness in curriculum and instructional material development, and for the impact their research and service activities have on the classroom.
Professor Green joined the UIC faculty in 2001 (when the school was known as The John Marshall Law School). She teaches Civil Procedure, Conflicts of Law, Lawyering Skills, and a seminar she developed assisted reproductive technologies and the law. Her research focuses on conflicts of law issues in family law, access to assisted reproductive technologies, and how the law can improve rates of vaccination. Professor Green is a frequent speaker and commentator on these topics.
Professor Green emigrated from the former USSR as a child and speaks fluent Russian. She received her AB (’90), MA (’90), and JD (’93) from the University of Chicago and studied at the Hague Academy of International Law. Professor Green has spoken on panels and been interviewed about the legal and humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
Prior to joining the faculty of UIC Law, Professor Green taught at Chicago Kent College of Law and Loyola Law School. Before moving to academia, Professor Green practiced in insurance and commercial litigation at McCullough, Campbell, and Lane and then Bates, Meckler, Bulger, and Tilson.
Congratulations, Sonia!
