Paycheck Fairness Act up on Senate HELP Committee Agenda this Week

Congress On this week's agenda for the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee is a full committee hearing entitled, A Fair Share for All: Pay Equity in the New American Workplace. The hearing is scheduled for Thursday morning, at 10 Eastern time. You may recall that as part of the legislation reacting to the Supreme Court's Ledbetter decision was the Paycheck Fairness Act, which passed the House in August of 2008 (noted here). The bill was not passed by the Senate at that time, but it's back on the agenda now. While the Lily Ledbetter Act focused on the statute of limitations and reversing the Supreme Court's decision, the Paycheck Fairness Act focuses on amending the Equal Pay act and providing greater remedies for gender pay discrimination.

I pray that this passes. I've been the recipient of pay inequity and I'm a local government worker!go figure! If they can get away with saving money they'll do it, I get $8 less than my peer, have a college degree, but she was hired when there was a push for "diversity" and she was young, no children to carry an extra burden on her..could put in more energy, years, and hours, they must have figured..me 6 years older..had a disabled adult son, a little more haggard...but so much more experience! and more education! wayyy more to bring to the job...but no...I got paid so much less, and got the lesser job..go figure...and yet, I do so much of the work there, covering for her, and the management, how many times they have incompetent Managers move through??...ok, I won't tell... work for next to nothing..I'm Cinderella!
