CEDAW Committee Ruling on LGBTQ+ Rights Under CEDAW Treaty

The United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), the treaty body enforcing the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (also CEDAW), has ruled that the criminalization of consensual same-sex sexual activity between women under Section 365A of Sri Lanka’s Penal Code 1883 violates their right to non-discrimination under CEDAW Article 2 (a) and (d)–(g).
