U.S. Supreme Court Again Limits Alien Tort Statute Lawsuits Against Foreign Corporations

The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that foreign corporations may not be sued in U.S. courts for complicity in human rights abuses committed abroad, unless such lawsuits are explicitly authorized by Congress. The vote was 5-4, with the Court's more conservative justices providing the majority in a plurality opinion authored by Justice Anthony M. Kennedy.
