Gay Athletes and the Russian Winter Olympics

Blake Skjellerup, a gay speed skater from New Zealand, says he will wear a rainbow pin to the Sochi Olympic games in 2014 in defiance of the Russian law prohibiting any positive affirmations of LGBT persons.  It seems as though this is something non-gay athletes should do as well.  Russia`s persecution of LGBT persons continues and violates international human rights laws. There is much debate about whether it is better to boycott the Russian Olympics or to use it for global education on the persecution of gay and lesbian persons in Russia.
