Canceling Haiti's Debts to International Lending Institutions

The U.S. House of Representatives Financial Services Committee (International Monetary Policy and Trade Panel) is expected to mark up legislation on March 4, 2010 in Room 2128 of the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington DC. 

The legislation (HR 4573) would direct the Secretary of the Treasury to instruct the U.S. executive directors at the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, and other multilateral development institutions to use the "voice, vote, and influence of the United States" to cancel completely Haiti‚Äôs debts to those institutions.
