Citizenship Restrictions in the UK

Bella Zielinski of Euractiv.com reports in this recent article that citizenship rules in the UK have been tightened for refugees who enter via "a dangerous journey."  According to the article, "Any person applying for citizenship from 10 February 2025, who previously entered the UK illegally will normally be refused, regardless of the time that has passed since the illegal entry took place.”

The Refugee Council is quoted as criticizing the new rules that could block as many as 71,000 refugees in the UK from obtaining citizenship despite having already lawfully qualified for asylum.
