Dumb Immigration Reporting

We've all been there. You're watching the news, you're reading the paper, and then you see it -- the dumbest immigration reporting. Maybe it's as simple as a question about "illegal immigrant criminals" or "migrant crimes." Maybe it's a a throwaway "shouldn't they follow the legal pathway to entry?"

I humbly submit for you my nomination of the dumbest immigration reporting of the year. On CBS Evening News last night, Reporter Adam Yamaguchi asked the Border Patrol rep showing him around: "How many illegal apprehensions are you conducting these days?" (video clip: Download IMG_5605.)

Sir, I would hope that the rep would say "zero." And go on to talk about how the agency always follows the letter of the law. Alas, no on-screen correction was forthcoming. The rep answered the spirit if not the letter of the question.
