"Kamala Harris and the border: The myth and the facts"

Official White House Photo

The daughter of immigrant parents, Vice President Kamala Harris is now the likely Democratic nominee for President.  Her immigration record will no doubt come under scrutiny.  Christian Paz for Vox considers that record, noting that

"[i]f Vice President Kamala Harris becomes the Democratic presidential nominee, Republicans have a ready-made case against her: They can say she was President Joe Biden’s `border czar,' in charge of immigration and the border, and she failed.

At least seven different speakers at the Republican National Convention over the last week have used that moniker to describe Harris, from the president of Goya Foods to anti-immigration activists to Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas and Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida."

The thing I don't understand is why Biden gave her the root causes assignment. Obama did that to him when he was the vice president. It didn't accomplish much then, and it probably will do even less now. When Biden did it, most of the illegal immigration was coming from the Central American countries that got the money. That isn't true now. They are coming from around 170 different countries now.
