The BBC reports that Russian military recruiters have been showing up to the country's immigration detention sites offering people "a job for the state." That is, Russia is promising otherwise deportable migrants "good pay, medical care, and permission to stay in Russia on completing a one-year army contract." That contract means service in the nation's war against Ukraine.
Among those being offered this "deal" are asylum seekers from Somalia and Iraq who have used Russia as a hopping off point in their efforts to seek asylum in the West (via Russia's border with Finland).
