On March 10-12, 2021 USC Gould School of Law and the Center for Law and Military Policy will host the Deported Veterans Symposium. This 3-day event will discuss how to eliminate barriers and affirmatively facilitate a path to citizenship for service members. The amazing agenda includes a conversation with U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth and immigration lawyer Margaret Stock. It will also include advocates from Public Counsel, a documentary film screening, and much more!
For those wanting to learn more about how current law and policy presents serious challenges for noncitizens in the military trying to naturalize, and even allows the deportations of veterans of the U.S. military, check out the scholarship of immprof's own Ming Hsu Chen. Her law review article, titled "Citizenship Denied: Implications of the Naturalization Backlog for Noncitizens in the Military," was published last year in the Denver Law Review and provides an excellent overview.
More information about the event is available here. CLE Credits will be provided.
