We're still waiting for the text of Biden's proposed Citizenship Act of 2021 (summary of the bill is here). In the meantime, Law360 reports Republican legislators have prepared two counterproposals that would end diversity visas and make immigrants with criminal convictions ineligible for asylum. Given that Democrats control the House of Representatives and can break 50-50 ties in the Senate with VP Harris, the bills will have a hard time gaining a majority. But they are an indication that President Biden's liberalization of immigration laws will not come without resistance.
