Hamed Aleaziz for BuzzFeed News was one of the first news agencies to report that the acting director for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Jonathan Fahey, is resigning just two weeks into the job. Just days ago, Chad Wolf, acting Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, resigned. And the previous ICE director, Tony Pham, stepped down after serving five months unexpectedly in December.
The departure is part of an exodus of officials from the Trump administration.
The agency has now seen six leaders come and go since 2017. None of the directors of the agency during Trump’s term were ever confirmed in the US Senate.
No reason for the resignation given. His deputy, Tae Johnson, will now serve as acting director.
