New Deal for New Americans Introduced in Senate

BREAKING NEWS Senator Ed Markey introduced federal legislation in the Senate to promote immigrant integration today

The New Deal for New Americans Act is a legislative proposal based on the “New American Dreams” policy priorities of the membership of the National Partnership for New Americans (NPNA) and its allies. The bill reflects a proactive, affirmative agenda that seeks to ensure that the federal government partners with state/local government to ensure immigrants and refugees (1) defend their legal foothold in the U.S. with the necessary legal support; (2) are received in welcoming and inclusive cities and neighborhoods; (3) have equitable access to U.S. citizenship and (4) can pursue English language learning and workforce development programs that support their full social, economic a civic participation in the United States.

The Senate bill follows introduction of a House bill introduced November 2019 by U.S. Representatives Grace Meng (NY); Jesús García (IL), and Pramila Jayapal (WA). (Prior immigrationprof blog post.)
