Immigration Court Case Quotas Go Into Effect Today

Attorney General Jeff Sessions's immigration court case quotas go into effect today. Under these quotas, immigration judges will be expected to complete at least 700 cases a year.  Former Immigration Judges and Board of Immigration Appeals members have issued sharp criticisms of the quotas, as has the National Association of Immigration Judges(which has called for the creation of an independent immigration court).  #JudicialIndependence and #ProtectDueProcess are being used on social media to draw attention to the structural shortcomings of the immigration courts and the new quotas.
