Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms
The City of Atlanta has ended its jail contract with ICE. Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms signed an executive order stating the City would no longer accept ICE detainees, and stated in a press conference: "Atlanta will no longer be complicit in a policy that intentionally inflicts misery on a vulnerable population without giving any thought to the horrific fallout...As the birthplace of the civil rights movement we are called to be better than this."
Atlanta joins a growing number of local jurisdictions that have similarly refused to work with ICE on immigration detention, including Santa Ana, CA; Hudson County, NJ; Contra Costa County, CA; and Springfield, OR.
