Sheriff Joe's Criminal Contempt Case in Hands of Judge

News reports (and here and here) tell the contrasting stories told in the closing arguments in the criminal contempt case of former Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio.  Arpaio was controversial for his staunch immigration enforcement stands and a federal court found that the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office had engaged in a pattern and practice of civil rights violations of the rights of Latinos in the name of immigration enforcement.  Arpaio claimed that "nobody is higher than me," and told his deputies they could enforce federal immigration law in defiance of a court order, a prosecutor said during closing arguments.

U.S, District Court Judge Susan Bolton is expected to make a decision in several weeks.
