MoreThanALabel: Immigrant Stories

ImmigrationProf is participating in #MoreThanALabel: Immigrant Stories, Simmons College’s online MSW Program’s campaign to promote transcending labels. By participating in this campaign, ImmigrationProf is committed to shattering the stigmas often attributed to immigrant communities.  The mean-spirited overbroad generalizations about immigrants by public figures such as Donald Trump and Ann Coulter should not be met by silence.  As Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "[i]n the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."

Day after day, achievement after achievement, immigrants to the United States defy labels.  Whether it is in sports, business, education, civic life (think the DREAMers), immigrants make this country their own -- and we all are better for it.
