Texas v. United States: The District Court Preliminary Injunction's Negative Impacts on Immigrant Communities

Julia Preston reports on the discouraging impacts on immigrant communities of the district court's entry of a preliminary injunction barring implementation (at least for now) of the Obama administration's expanded deferred action programs in Texas v. United States. Although it may well be that the U.S. government ultimately prevails in the case,  there are costs imposed by the roller coaster ride in the American court system.  Many undocumented immigrants have been waiting years for immigration reform and relief of some sort.  The deferred action programs, while not across-the-board reform, offered some relief and some semblance of hope.  Those hopes -- perhaps but not definitely temporarily -- have been dashed.
