The Derrick A. Bell, Jr. Award, named in honor of Professor Derrick A. Bell, Jr.-the first tenured African-American on the Harvard Law School faculty- honors a junior faculty member who, through activism, mentoring, colleagueship, teaching and scholarship, has made an extraordinary contribution to legal education, the legal system or social justice. Prof. García Hernández will be receiving the award on Monday, January 5, 2015 at the AALS Annual Meeting. In winning this award, he joins immigration legal scholars Leti Volpp (2003), Rose Cuison Villazor (2011) and Stephen Lee (2014).
