"Playing Politics at the [Immigration] Bench"
ImmigrationProf more than two years ago reported on the partisan political considerations employed by the Bush administration in the selection of immigration judges and Board of Immigration appeals members. On October 1, the Center for Immigrants' Rights at Penn State University, The Dickinson School of Law and the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild (NIPNLG) released a white paper titled "Playing Politics at the Bench: A White Paper on the Justice Department's Investigation into the Hiring Practices of Immigration Judges." Among other recommendations, the report suggests that immigration judges hired through the corrupt procedures should be required to reapply and that a lawful proess based on the qualifications of the applicants be followed.
