Friend of Mexican Immigrant Beaten to Death in Pennsylvania Gives Eyewitness Account of Attack

Ramirezweb1 Democracy Now! has an interview by Amy Goodman of a witness to the beating death of Luis Ramirez, a twenty-five-year-old Mexican immigrant.  Ramirez was beaten to death last week by a group of teenagers in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania. He was walking home last Monday night when six white high school students brutally beat him while yelling racial slurs. Despite eyewitness testimony, no charges have been filed.

Amy Goodman interviewed Arielle Garcia, a friend of Ramirez who witnessed the attack. Click here for the transcript.

UPDATE Three teens were charged on July 25 with crimes in connection with the death of Ramirez.

I find it disturbing that the animals that murdered this young man are still walking the street.

The phrase 'only in America' comes to mind actually. Why is it acceptable for the behaviour of these boys and the police officers who failed to do their job properly to go unpunished? Obviously local government & perhaps even on a national level this is accepted. America has created its social problems & they are being exacerbated by incidents like this.

A young man dead, his children are now fatherless and his attackers are free because they are white? What kind of a sick country is this?

I think people are making way to big a deal about this.
People are beaten up all of the time.
Some of those beaten up die.
Why make a federal case about it?
Anyway, wasn't this guy an illegal?

Luis would not have died had he not entered the United States illegally.

James Wilson you are a total idiot, How are you going to say its alright to kill a human being because of where he came from. He was probably screaming as you would of bin if you were brutally beaten you should grow some common sense and know it doesn't mean where you come from you still feel the same pain bleed the same blood and people will still morn for you but your a total idiot who can't understand that.

This takes place all the time in America. We just don't hear about it. Two Native American boys were almost beaten to death by a gang of about 20 white boys in Hot Springs, South Dakota, only to have the prosecutor turn around and charge the Indian boys with attempted murder.
