Elder Abuse as a Human Rights Challenge in Kenya

Denin Omondi (Central European University), Elder Abuse as a Human Rights Challenge in Kenya, SSRN (2021):

The elderly in Kenya encounter abuse from all quarters, including care givers, community, and even their own family. Thus goes on despite provisions in the Constitution requiring the State to ensure the elderly live in dignity, respect, receive protection from abuse, and provide care and reasonable assistance. Despite the challenges that come with aging, most elderly people are left to fend for themselves despite their increasing vulnerability. Women suffer more as they are charged with responsibilities even in old age. It is common to find elderly women in Kenya taking care of their grandchildren despite having no source of income or dwindling resources.
