Scotland Becomes First UK Jurisdiction to Ban Spanking of Children

On Thursday, the Scottish Parliament passed the Children (Equal Protection from Assault) (Scotland) Bill (by 84 votes to 29). It will remove the defense of “justified assault” (the successor to “reasonable chastisement”) from parents who hit their children.
