CLEA Newsletter - Winter 2024-2025
Please read the CLEA Newsletter issue for Winter 2024-2025:
The opening message from CLEA Co-Presidents Gowri Krishna & June Tai:
We are writing this message to you shortly after the presidential election. In looking at previous CLEA Co-Presidents’ messages, we see repeated references to significant challenges amid larger political and social issues here and abroad. While a more favorable outcome in the presidential election might have meant a lessening of those challenges rather than an escalation of them, the truth is that we have and will always face significant challenges in our line of work. We know what we need to sustain ourselves individually, and we know that cultivating community is crucial to moving forward together. We’ve been here before, and we know what to do.
We remain committed to protecting academic freedom, achieving equivalency in status for clinicians and our programs, developing clinical pedagogy for social change, and promoting diversity and inclusion within our profession. As you’ll read about in this newsletter, our committees are continuing to lead the way in each of these areas and beyond. We are also embarking on the development of a new strategic plan that acknowledges the complexities of our current era and positions us to effectively mentor and support the next generation of lawyers.
We look forward to seeing you at the upcoming AALS Conference on Clinical Education on April 26-29 in Baltimore, the theme of which–the Role of Lawyers and the Responsibilities of Clinical Teachers in Society–could not be more critical. CLEA’s New Clinicians Conference will take place at the University of Baltimore on April 26th–we invite all new clinicians to register.
In solidarity, Gowri Krishna & June Tai
