CLEA Outstanding Student Awards: UC Hastings's Allen Sin and Alex Tuchman

CLEA Outstanding Clinical Student or Team Award: Allen Sin from the UC Hastings Individual Representation Clinic and Refugee and Human Rights Clinic:

Allen Sin, a graduating 3L, took two clinics and two externships during his time at UC Hastings. In the Individual Representation Clinic, he and his partner ably handled both a clean slate case (which required extensive research into an arcane statute regulating reinstatement of gun rights) and a Social Security disability case. Allen established strong bonds with clients (his Social Security client still texts him), secured vital reports and declarations from experts, and was an important contributor to seminar discussions. In the Refugee and Human Rights Clinic, he received the CALI award and did overall excellent work. He is a particularly mature, thoughtful, and diligent student. His connection with his client (who has since been granted asylum, thanks to the hard work of Allen and his teammates) was wonderful to see. In addition to these two clinics, he did a legal externship at the State of California's Attorney General's Workers' Rights Unit to great praise by his supervisors. In his last semester, he externed with a judge; his supervising clerk repeatedly mentioned how she is considering changing some of the practices in chambers based on Allen's insightful comments and suggestions.

CLEA Outstanding Externship Student Award: Alex Tuchman

Alex Tuchman, a graduating 3L,  is an exceptionally gifted aspiring attorney. Alex is deeply committed to clients, to learning, and to making a difference in the world, and she excelled in her work throughout her externship experience at the San Francisco Public Defender's Office through her enrollment in the Criminal Practice Clinic. Alex graduated with a Concentration in Social Justice Lawyering.
