Empirical Evidence of the Value of Privacy

• We emphasise that sound privacy policy, including policy on data rights, consumer protection, and antitrust, should take into account a range of costs and benefits that includes privacy preferences.

• We summarise existing measures of privacy preferences, noting how they vary greatly in methods and findings, with limited international and cross-platform comparisons.

• We provide highlights from a recent international, multi-platform study we conducted and discuss applications of privacy preference measurement, from our study and others, for policy.
