Intelligence Squared Debate on Tech Companies

There was a live Intelligence Squared debate in London on 17 Jan 2018 which had the motion “Break up the Tech Giants”. Pinar Akman (University of Leeds) argued against the motion with Elizabeth Linder (formerly at Facebook). Rana Foroohar (FT/CNN) and Luke Johnson (entrepreneur) argued for the motion. The debate was in front of an audience of around 800 people and then broadcast by BBC World to a global audience of apparently 80 million people on the weekend of 3/4 February 2018.

The audience vote at the start of the debate. Initially, they voted 39% for the motion, 24% against the motion, 37% undecided. The audience was asked to vote just before the end of the debate again and and the vote was 46% for the motion, 52% against the motion, 2% undecided.

The edited video and podcast are now available here as well as more detailed information on the debate.
