The Antitrust Professor (and his family) rank Channukah videos - a 2014 update
The last time that we ranked Channukah videos was our 2011 ranking. With three girls (we added one in 2012) we now have tie breakers for voting.
Gold medal
Burn - The Maccabeats
The older girls liked the plot. The tune is a well known one that the girls like. Hannah and I liked the positive message of the video. We saw the Maccabeats in concert as a family in Minneapolis in 2013 when we lived there (I was a visiting professor in 2012-13 at the University of Minnesota).
Silver medal
Light Up the Night - Fountainheads
The song was fun. The girls didn't catch the Matrix reference.
Bronze medal
Chanukah Jewish Rock of Ages - Aish
My oldest liked the 50s/60s style throwback music. I liked the Journey tribute part. The girls would have ranked it higher but they felt that the disco scene (to the Bee Gees) would have been better if there were female dancers.
Honrable mention
Chanukah Makes You Jewtiful - Star D
I found this song really annoying and the Orthodox paradoy a bit offensive but my kids liked it.
My pick
Jewish rappers? You bet - Beastie Boys, Drake, MC Search, etc. I like this guy because you are looking for an antitrust angle to this post. I found one - this rapper has a passing resemblance to Cadwalader's Jonathan Kanter.
