Book Review Symposium - China’s Anti-Monopoly Law: The First Five Years, Emch and Stallibrass (ed) (2013)

Posted by D. Daniel Sokol

Today and tomorrow (except in China where tomorrow is already "today") we are running a book review symposium of China’s Anti-Monopoly Law: The First Five Years (Adrian Emch, Hogan Lovells David Stallibrass, Koguan Law School of Shanghai Jiaotong University; Charles River Associates editors, Kluwer 2013).  I was at the book launch party in Beijing two weeks ago and read an advance copy of the book.  As readers may be aware, I have an active interest in the AML.  My first AML related paper (on merger control) can be downloaded here.  Last year I did judicial training in China and also spoke on agency priorities.  This year I was involved as a speaker in the five year anniversary conference on academic issues and moderated the panel on antitrust-intellectual property.  It is not a stretch to write that antitrust developments in China may be the most exciting in the world today, largely because so much of the system is in fluc with regard to institutional structure, procedural and substantive issues.

Participating in the book review symposium are some heavy hitters:

Allan Fels (Australia New Zealand School of Government)
Catriona Hatton (Baker Botts)
Liyang Hou (Koguan Law School, Shanghai Jiao Tong University)
Ping Lin (Lingnan University)
Mitsuo Matsushita (University of Tokyo)
D. Daniel Sokol (University of Florida)

I will provide more details in my review of the book.  In the meantime, let me now simply state that there is something in this book for everyone - practitioners and academics.  I am very pleased with this book and happily read it cover to cover.
