An Underutilized Estate Planning Tool

American FlagVeteran pensions and benefits can help children of vets care for their disabled parents, help the veteran with medical expenses, or help provide funds for a spouse after the vet passes away. However, these benefits must be applied for, and few of the 23 million living veterans in the United States and their families are taking advantage of these available options. Many individuals do not think to tell their financial advisor that a family member they care for is a veteran and many advisors do not ask. Adding this topic to the estate planning conversation can add a beneficial estate planning tool to the discussion.
