As I have previously discussed, the family trust that owns the Clippers creates additional legal issues and questions if Donald Sterling is forced to sell the Clippers. Sterling’s estranged wife, Shelly Sterling, owns half of the family trust that includes the Clippers. It seems unlikely that she will try to stop the sale as she is publicly in support of the sale and the league. However, she can try to take her half of the team from Sterling, leaving him with only half to sell. She could then either have a judge allow her to hold her half until the value of the team goes back up or ask the NBA to require that the Sterling family trust sell the team to her.
