California Courts Asked to Draw the Line Between Parent or Sperm Donor

Jason PatricAs I have previously discussed, earlier this year a Kansas judge ruled that a man who donated his sperm to a same-sex couple in response to a Craigslist ad was required to pay child support. Now, courts in California are facing a similar issue.  Movie star Jason Patric is appealing a lower court decision that terminated his parental rights. The mother of his child Danielle Schreiber asked the judge to terminate Patric’s rights claiming that he is not the child’s father, but instead a sperm donor. Patric and Schreiber had the child together through in vitro insemination, after they had ended their romantic relationship but while they were still friends.
