Although Arkansas has staunchly supported the ban on gay marriage, Arkansas Attorney General, Dustin McDaniel, recently stated he supports allowing same-sex couples to marry. “I want to tell you I do support marriage equality and I do believe Arkansans should have the right to be equal in the eyes of the law,” said McDaniel.
While no specific incident shaped McDaniel’s view about gay marriage, he claims the notion of treating anyone as a second-class citizen is unfathomable. Despite his views, McDaniel says he will zealously defend the state’s constitution and will not allow his personal opinions to interfere with his job.
