Court Rules Craigslist Sperm Donor Must Pay Up

As I have previously discussed, the Kansas Department for Children and Families sued William Marotta for child support because he donated his sperm to a same-sex couple after responding to a Craigslist ad.

A Shawnee County District Court Judge has ruled that Marotta is the presumptive father of the child and is subject to paying child support because he and the couple failed to comply with the statutory requirement that a licensed physician be used in the artificial insemination process.

This decision appears to be a case of first impression.  No word yet on whether Marotta plans on appealing.
