Trial For Mercy Killing in Ohio

GunJohn Wise just testified on his own behalf at his wife's murder trial. Wise decided to shoot his 45-year-old wife in her hospital bed. He was concerned that his wife's state was progressively getting worse. Wise claims that he had a pact with his wife that they would not keep one another alive in a vegetative state. After his visit, medical staff told him that her condition was worsening "hour to hour.” After seeing his wife in pain, he decided to shoot her. "My recollection is that I walked in there, and within two minutes, I kissed her on the cheek and shot her," Wise said. He claims that he has no memory of what happened next. If convicted, Wise faces life in prison.
