A Spongebob Squarepants headstone is causing quite the controversy in Cincinnati.
Kimberley Walker was an Army corporal and huge Spongebob fan. At age 28, she was found slain in a Colorado Springs hotel room. Her family spent $13,000 each for two Spongebob headstones, the other for Walker’s twin sister, and also obtained copyright approval from Nickelodeon.
The day after the headstone was erected, cemetery staff called the family to inform them it would have to come down. The family did get prior approval from the cemetery to erect the headstone, but cemetery officials said the approving employee made a mistake.
Cemetery president Gary Freytag says he is willing to do whatever the family thinks is best, except for reinstalling the monuments. The family just wants the headstones put back up.
