Recently, Oregon's justice department released a legal opinion stating that Oregon state agencies must recognize legalized same- sex marriages. The rational behind the decision was that there was not a legitimate or compelling state interest in refusing to recognize the out of state same –sex couple marriages. Attorney General Mary Williams claims, “It is legally defensible for Oregon agencies to recognize same-sex marriages validly performed in other jurisdictions.”
