Hong Kong Amends Trust Law

HongknogHong Kong just came out with an amendment to the Trust Law Bill 2013. The bill was passed on July 17, and will be enacted on December 1, 2013. This amendment is the first substantial change since 1934. As a result, Hong Kong is a more attractive place for people interested in creating a trust. These are some of the highlights of the amendment:

  1. Inherent powers for the Settlor
  2. Perpetual trusts are allowed
  3. Forced heirship protection
  4. Adjustments to the trustees default powers
  5. Liability exemptions, especially for beneficiaries
