Attorney Depletes Veteran's Trust

Grover-Gordon_0917

Grover Gordon, 82, hired Escondido attorney Sydney Kirkland to take care of his finances.  What she ended up doing was taking over $275,000 of his inheritance left to him by good friend Bobbi Letman.

Kirkland was also Letman’s attorney so she was able to add her own name as co-trustee and beneficiary of the trust.  Gordon didn’t understand how trusts work, but did hire a second attorney to investigate Kirkland after a property bill went unpaid.

Kirkland pled guilty to grand theft, embezzlement, and financial abuse of an elder and received 18 months in jail.
