Nurse Involved in Botched Kidney Transplant Suing for Wrongful Termination

Nurse-hat

As I have previously discussed, a family recently sued the University of Toledo Medical Center after a nurse inadvertently disposed of a kidney during a transplant surgery.

The nurse who threw away the organ resigned within weeks, but another nurse was suspended and then terminated for allegedly violating policies and procedures.  This nurse, 30-year employee Melanie Lemay, is now suing the hospital for wrongful termination, contending the polices and procedures were put in place six days after the botched surgery.  Lemay says she was fired for violating communication policies and failing to prevent the other nurse from removing the kidney from the operation room.  Lemay maintains she had no knowledge the organ was being removed.
