Sarah A. Fudacz, 24, was supposed to receive her younger brother’s kidney, which was considered a perfect match, during a 2012 transplant surgery. Unfortunately, after her brother’s kidney was removed, a nurse inadvertently disposed of it.
Now, the family is suing the University of Toledo Medical Center, seeking damages for the loss of the perfect kidney and the suffering Sarah’s brother underwent during the risky surgery. The hospital, which temporarily suspended live-donor kidney transplants, hopes this incident will improve health care quality and patient safety.
