14 residents of West Rest Haven, the West, Texas nursing home affected by the fertilizer plant explosion, have died in the last two months, which is twice as high as usual.
Despite the destruction of most of the nursing home, almost all the nursing home residents survived it. However, relatives believe the shock of the explosion hastened their deaths. Experts believe the combination of existing illnesses, multiple displacements, and the confusion following the aftermath of the blast has contributed to the higher death rate.
