The University of Texas Sues Ryan O’Neal Over Farrah Fawcett Portrait

Andy-Warhol-Farrah-Fawcett As I previously blogged, the “missing” Andy Warhol portrait of Farrah Fawcett appeared on Ryan O’Neal’s reality television show. Now the University of Texas at Austin has sued O’Neal in a Los Angeles court, claiming that Fawcett bequeathed the portrait to the Austin campus. The University has asked a judge to force O’Neal to relinquish the portrait to the University.

The University of Texas is also asking that O’Neal purchase insurance for the estimated $30 million painting and is seeking an undetermined amount of financial damages. The University’s suit further alleges that O’Neal is in possession of other pieces of art that Fawcett intended to go to the University.

See Ryan O’Neal sued over Andy Warhol Farrah Fawcett art, BBC News, Jul. 10, 2011.

Special thanks to Joel Dobris (Professor of Law, UC Davis School of Law) for bringing this to my attention.
