Australia: Attempt to Register Linux TM Rejected

ZDNet Australia is reporting that an attempt by the Linux Australia advocacy group to register the "Linux" trademark for the benefit of Linus Torvaalds, the creator of the open source operating system, as failed.  The Australian trademark authority ruled that the mark isn't distinctive enough to be registered.  The full story is here, and the information on the registration is at this link.

I saw that you have a page that discusses patent-related resources at http://lawprofessors.typepad.com/tech_law_prof/2005/09/australia_attem.html. I wanted to suggest adding www.freepatentsonline.com to the page. This web site has free PDF downloading (instead of having to page through TIFFs like at the US PTO). It is by far the best free patent searching site.
